Legal Document Certification Services

At Smith & Co Solicitors, we offer a full range of legal document certification services. This can be helpful if you’re undergoing a legal application process, needing a certified copy of a Lasting Power of Attorney or moving abroad. We can also help if you are required to swear an oath or submit a statutory declaration or affidavit.

Certifying Documents

If you have been asked to submit a certified copy of an original document, you will need to bring the original document to a solicitor who will take a copy and sign to confirm it is a true and exact copy of the original.

We offer a certified copy document service for a fixed fee of £10 cash – please note that we cannot accept card or cheque payments for this service.

Statutory Declaration, Oath or Affidavit

In certain legal or financial circumstances, you may be asked to provide a statutory declaration, affidavit or swear an oath.

This may be required to:

Smith & Co Solicitors have been appointed by the Chief Justice as Commissioners for Oaths, which means that we are authorised to witness the swearing of an oath, affidavit or statutory declaration.

A statutory declaration, oath or affidavit are written statements of fact that are witnessed and signed by a solicitor or other qualified professional.

To make one you will need to recite a declaration of truth then sign to confirm the statement you have made is correct. We will then sign, date and state our qualification to authenticate the document.

We offer a statutory declaration, oath and affidavit service for a fixed fee of £20 cash – please note that we cannot accept card or cheque payments for this service.

Land Registry Forms ID1 and ID2

If you are a party to a land transaction such as a sale or transfer of property that you own and you are not legally represented, Land Registry will require you to complete an ID1 (or ID2 if you are a company) in the presence of a solicitor.

You will need to bring original ID documents together with passport style photographs. We recommend that you check the guidance on what to bring by clicking on the following link:

We offer an ID1 & ID2 service for a fixed fee of £75 + VAT (£90) – please note that we cannot accept card or cheque payments for this service.
